Finally photographed

That whole Ravelry thing is forcing me to actually clean up some odds and ends with recent knitting projects. Here's one:

I finished it awhile ago. I acquired the yarn and the pattern on the Great 2007 Ft. Worth Yarn Crawl atSimpatico Yarns in Bedford, between Dallas and Fort Worth. That's a very friendly yarn shop with staff. The yarn is the soft Misti Alpaca Chunky, and I used the stockinette version of the lace pattern. I didn't mind the roll, and I liked how it looked. It's huge and long and soft and very pink.

If I fall off the face of the earth. . .

You can blame this.

There's something about this prayer thing

I went out to the fall women's retreat at our retreat center with the firmest intention of asking the retreat leader for a few moments of prayer for dealing with some dark stuff I had been carrying along with me last week.

The topic of our retreat was "Prayer: Not with Words Only" and we tried different sorts of prayer. We prayed the Daily Office, we practiced Centering Prayer, we practiced walking prayer, played with Anglican beads and finger labyrinths.

I realized, as I was driving away, that simply being in that prayer-soaked atmosphere accomplished what I needed to have accomplished without me ever tracking down the retreat leader for a few minutes' chat.

Funny how that works.

Side Trips and Meanderings

You know you're working in Oklahoma when:

You are making a pastoral call at the hospital on the day of the big OU-Texas game, and as you walk down the hallway, looking for the room your parishioner is in, you hear snippets of the game from every room you pass.

(I even watched a few seconds myself down in the surgical waiting room with the little crowd that had gathered around the big screen TV there).

My own alma mater is 3 and 0 in conference play, a feat that is making me consider revisiting orange and blue as a fashion statement. They need all the help I can get.

I'll leave you with a favorite shot from our whirlwind Midwestern tour from the summer. This museum in Austin, Minnesota is definitely worth the trip.
